Programmable NFC tag FAQs

Can I program NFC tags myself?+

Yes. All LINQS NFC stickers and cards ship blank and un-encoded. Use any NFC writer app on iPhone or Android — NFC Tools, NFC TagWriter by NXP, or the built-in Shortcuts app on iOS — to write a URL, vCard, Wi-Fi credential, or any NDEF record directly from your phone.

Which app do I use to write NFC tags?+

NFC Tools (iOS and Android) and NFC TagWriter by NXP are the most popular. On iPhone, iOS Shortcuts also supports NFC writing natively without a third-party app. All work with NTAG213, NTAG215, and NTAG216 chips.

What is NTAG213 vs NTAG215 vs NTAG216?+

These are NXP chip models that differ by memory capacity. NTAG213 stores 144 bytes — enough for most short URLs and review links. NTAG215 stores 504 bytes, suitable for vCards and richer records. NTAG216 stores 888 bytes, the maximum in the NTAG21x family. Start with NTAG213 unless you know you need more memory.

Can I re-program an NFC tag after encoding?+

Standard LINQS NFC tags are rewritable — you can overwrite the stored data as many times as needed. Locked tags (write-protected after encoding) are available on request for deployment scenarios where the URL should not be changed.

Do LINQS NFC tags come pre-encoded?+

By default, all tags ship blank so you can encode them yourself. If you need tags pre-encoded with a specific URL or NDEF record in bulk, request it through the bulk quote flow and LINQS will encode before dispatch.

What is the scan range after programming?+

Scan range depends on the reader antenna, not the encoded content. Standard NTAG213/215/216 stickers typically scan at 1–4 cm. Anti-metal tags use a ferrite backing that restores range on steel and aluminium surfaces.
