Buying NTAG216 in bulk?

Use the memory headroom, then pick the form factor.

NTAG216 holds a full vCard or several NDEF records offline, which is why it is the chip for contact cards and data tags that must work without a server. Confirm the payload with the memory calculator, then choose stickers, PVC cards or keychains. For a single link, NTAG213 is cheaper and reads identically.

NTAG216 FAQs

What is an NTAG216 NFC tag?

NTAG216 is an NXP NFC chip with 888 bytes of user memory, the largest in the NTAG213/215/216 family. It follows the NFC Forum Type 2 standard, so every NFC phone reads it without an app.

How much data does NTAG216 hold?

888 bytes of user memory, roughly 870 characters after NDEF overhead. That covers a complete vCard with address, several phone numbers and a website, or several NDEF records in one tap.

When is NTAG216 worth the extra cost?

When the data must live on the tag: a full contact card, a multi-record message, or a payload that will grow. If the tag only opens a URL, NTAG213 holds it at a lower price and reads at the same speed and range.

Does NTAG216 work with iPhone?

Yes. NTAG216 reads on iPhone XS and newer in the background, on iPhone 7 to X through the Control Centre reader, and on every NFC Android phone.

Can I lock or password-protect an NTAG216 tag?

Yes. NTAG216 supports a 32-bit password for write protection and a permanent read-only lock. It is rated for 100,000 write cycles and 10 years of data retention, so you can rewrite it many times before locking.
